Space Coast State Fair, er...DISAPPOINTMENT

My first North American Midway Entertainment/NAME fair in years.... and it was pretty awful.
So in early 2013 I found out about a fair called the Space Coast State Fair taking place in the fall and that it was gonna be their 25th anniversary, Jeff had never heard of it and looking at their website it seemed like it should be pretty major. After some research and finding out NAME was the midway provider we were both pretty excited for this fair.... Well, uh, that quickly ended once showing up at the fair grounds........
Ok, to be fair... what we got wasn't that bad of a midway... but far from what we were promised.
Add on top of that more than half the rides being closed when we got there... Some were still being setup in fact! (oh, and almost every major ride had a sign saying no singles... how odd) Oh... and we can add the massive letdown of Vortex being a no-show due to the indecent that happened in North Carolina, that could have been the fairs saving grace.

So here we go, Space Coast State Fair ((never again :P))
Hey look, tickets booths not open on time.. or even at all!
Once in the fair... the first SIX rides we walked up to, were closed / broken / not fully setup yet
the Afterburn, Ferris Wheel, Himalaya. Spider, Power Surge, and Speed. In fact, the Himalaya never managed to open (I don't think the Tilt did either)
off to a fantastic start.....
The (nice looking) KMG Speed was the first to open and even with just the two of us riding... and no line, the cycle was embarrassingly short and worse yet, we were forced to walk around the massive empty queue for a reride... they wouldn't let use just stay on... or give a cycle worth riding (maybe 3 times around and no direction change)
After our two pointless rides on Speed we took a ride on the now open Spider.
<3 Spider
Power Surge eventually opened as well.. but ran pretty craptastic.
But it was nice see one of my favorite Zamp rides again.
ZzZzz, after checking like four different times, the Chance Wheel opened as well.. but only went around twice before our ride was over. I'd understand short cycles if there was a line.. But the entire fair couldn't have had more than 20 people attending!
(This photo proves that 20 people wasn't an exaggeration :P)
Overview of most of the midway.... Like I said, not really a bad lineup but definitely a poor lineup for something claiming to be a "STATE FAIR" and rather on the small side based on photos of years past.
China Dragon, NAME's Wisdom Orient Express.
I tend to skip kiddie coasters at fairs..... but
I was pretty annoyed... And the operator on it made me laugh.. So I took a spin
(and I guess it's a +1 for me?... Credit!)
In the back we found a Chance Yo-Yo and took it for a spin as well... But its a far cry from the Wave Swinger shown online and therefore somewhat expected....
The pretty sunset in Viera might have been better than the fair itself :P
((never again...))
Yup... Not worth a reride.
Although we did ride the Cliff Hanger, a ride I tend to skip elsewhere.
Woo, but there was a Re-Mix and it was run pretty fast <3
Uh, Starship?
Yeah... So that's it. We left after less than maybe two hours and felt pretty stupid for picking Space Coast over a trip to the Volusia County Fair also happening at the same time... In fact, the day was so poor we ended up going to Volusia later that week having agreed to just do one or the other!

I don't know... Had we gone to the fair knowing what the lineup was gonna be we would have been less pissy about it.. but when you show yourself as being this massive big fair with lots of big pieces and you show up to find Speed and not much else its kind of a big letdown.
So next time, you might not wanna show a Zipper, Log Flume, Wave Swinger, Spin Mouse, Kamikaze, Tornado, Zyklon, Drop Tower, or Flying Bob's if you aren't gonna have them....

Great Escape Lodge and White Water Bay!

Filling in with some backlogged photos from last year......
This time around its from my first time staying at the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge and White Water Bay indoor water park in Queensbury, New York (Lake George)

Great Escape used to be a yearly pilgrimage for me up until 2009 when I moved to Orlando and I'd been itching to get back ever since... Even getting almost annoyed when the rest of my family had gone back in the years since.... So my dad and I came up with a plan that would allow me to visit the park again, have family time, spend the day at the water park and surprise my mom all at the same time. I got my dad to book the hotel for a weekend trip at the end of September knowing my mom would sort-of boast to me about how they/she was gonna be going to the park and staying at the hotel and that I was gonna be "stuck" in Orlando and such having no idea I was flying up and meeting them. Ok, blah blah blah onto the photos and stuff.

Woo, so after leaving Melrose at 5am and driving out to Lake George we arrived at the lodge.
The Six Flags Great Escape Lodge opened in 2006 and while we had all walked around inside, this would be our first time staying here (we used to stay elsewhere in the area when visiting.) The lodge was Six Flags' first and only water park resort built to date and now the only hotel owned by the chain (having sold off Darien Lake)
The lobby was all set for Halloween and Fright Fest.
 A bear!!!
And... a big spider.
The room was surprisingly large with two queens and pull-out sofa (where of course, I ended up...)
The room was nice but felt a bit dated for something not even 10 years old. It wasn't bad but it could use a refresh.
Although the main reason for booking the hotel is for the indoor water park.
White Water Bay
er..... Fright Water Bay
White Water Bay features a nice sized lazy river, 3 major water slides, a splash fort, kid area, and a Flow Rider within the 38,000-square-foot building.
Tak-it-Eesi-Creek, the best of the four indoor lazy rivers I've experienced.
Water jets near one of the rivers entrance.
One of the pool areas that branch off the river itself with some jets and waterfalls, Lott-A-Watta-Bay.
Another bear! In the kiddie area, Tip-A-Kanu-Beach.
Due to limited space within the water park there are at least three different levels and all three major water slides take place outside of the building itself.
Tall Timbers Treehouse is on the third level and mostly built over Lott-A-Watta-Bay and the lazy river.
It also featured some theming for Halloween
At the top of the stairs is where the three major slides start. Avalanche, Glacier Run, and Snow Shoe Falls. On the far left you can see what used to be the lift for the massive tubes used on Avalanche. When it first opened the slide used the standard circle raft used on most family slide but at some point the park switched over to using the ProSlide Cloverleaf tube that doesn't seem to fit and now guest have to drag the massive tube up stairs on their own (as seen on the right)
Avalanche as seen from outside.
The exit for Glacier Run and Snow Shoe Falls and a little more Halloween theming.
And.... the same slides as seen from outside.
And lastly, Boogie Bear! Bear themed Flow Rider?
I just couldn't bring myself to try it front of my family
(I've already embarrassed myself on one in Destin, FL)

yaayyy! Six Flags Great Escape Lodge and White Water Bay, a great way to spend a few hours on a chilly fall morning after driving some 5 hours to upstate New York from Boston and waiting for Great Escape (park) to open at noon so I can ride COMET! <3

Osceola County Fair and stuff

So once again... we were in Kissimmee.. but at least this time there's a Huss Top Spin!
I've gone to the Osceola Fair a few times now.. but only the years the Top Spin has shown up, seeing online that it was at the 2014 fair Jeff and I made sure to show up and take a few rides. Back in 2012 we got this amazing triple-cycle ride that was lovely.. this year it didn't seem to be running to its potential but I saw a video online a few days later showing it going full-out (I think we were there opening day so they might have been going easy on it)
Woo, the 2014 Osceola County Fair!
(moooo?!)
Wait no, I mean... Quack quack!!
((quack!!!))
And also... this little bunny :D
Bonus Ring-Tailed LEMUR!!!
Ok, onto the rides and stuff!
Mmmm...... the only full sized Top Spin traveling in North America and the only reason I'd wanna visit a Strates Show spot.
(and its run pretty well too!)
yaayyy! Jeff and I got stuck on the ride for a few minutes after it faulted midride
Oh yeah, and it was the second time in a week we'd been stuck on a Huss Top Spin having already been stuck on Deggeller's TS2 at the State Fair a few days before.... <3
Oh hey, look... its that Ferris Wheel that ruined our trip here the last time we visited the fair.....
We skipped the Wacky Worm having ridden it back in 2010 (lame, I know)
Zyklon was back and repainted since our last time seeing it.
It was running so well we rode it twice
(and on a tickets day too!)
The Wave Swinger was ridden as well.
As was the Sky Flyer... that was sadly running a rather short cycle
ahahaha.... Yeah, the Happy Swing was skipped... but sadly Jeff and I have ridden two of them already :-\
And we took our first ride on the Zipper for the year as well..
(The one at State Fair never seemed to run when we were there and the Central Floria Fair one was closed as well....)
Well, maybe.... It all depends on if the Top Spin shows up. :P
woo woo

Off topic a little... I wonder how you pronounce

Uh, The Food Truck Bazaar; Kissimmee, Florida

So uh.... Food Trucks and stuff... and um.. yeah
The Food Truck Bazaar; Kissimmee, Florida
presented by The Daily City

So this is a thing now... in my life
Or, we'll see....
Food trucks are big business around here now and Jeff's about to get into it himself with his very own truck, so I've been tagging along with him on my days off as he checks out different meet-ups around Central Florida. woo

You can pretty much find any kind of food you'd like...
Most of the trucks even have their own Facebook, Twitter, and even YouTube pages.
BBQ and TexMex seemed to have the biggest lines at this event in Kissimmee
(gotta know your local population)
Mmmm, snack trucks!
We saw this massive Chicken and Waffles camper a few times.. seems to be pretty popular too.
Oh, and they even have a food tuck for pets!
I hope the people buying stuff here knew it was for their dogs... uhhhh
Annddd even some local ducks were getting in on the action...
(quack quack quack)

(I should be posting some photos from the Osceola County Fair in the next day or so :) )
yaayyy!
